Every year, there will be a school under the project that qualifies as a diamond health promotion school, but this year is an emerging phenomenon that the 6 schools in the same area, Nam Som District, Udon Thani Province, successfully have met the criteria to be the diamond health promotion schools at the same time. From such accomplishment, “Nam Som Model” will be extended for continued use in the next project.

“Nam Som Model” is set as a model for the synergies of all sectors for the same goal of improving the well-being of youth in scarce areas, consisting of the public and private sectors, and participating schools, and local communities: Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health, Udon Thani Province, Nam Som District Public Health Office, Sub-district Health Promoting Hospital, Regional Health Promotion Center 8 Udon Thani, Nam Som Hospital, Primary Educational Service Area Office, and ROZA Lovely Family Trip, with the beginning of Dr. Kangwan Wongratsameedeun, Director of Nam Som Hospital, to see Ban Tha Som School participating in ROZA Lovely Family Trip and successfully passed the criteria as a diamond health promotion school. In this school, the students have a better quality of life, so it was inspired to lead the schools in his own district to qualify for the diamond health promotion school. Therefore, he decided to invite schools in the district to join the project. There are 9 schools that were interested in participating in the project, which 6 out of 9 schools were qualified for the diamond health promotion school, namely, Ban Tha Som School, Nam Som Prachasawan School, Ban Yuak School, Ban Chok Charoen School, Ban Tha Li School, and Ban Nam Seum School.

The success factor of “Nam Som Model” with its element and process can be summarized as follows.

Local community and schools recognize the importance of qualifying as a diamond health promotion school and are determined to promote the schools to become a diamond health promotion school.

The schools in the area (district) wanting to join ROZA Lovely Family Trip are grouped to organize workshops for both knowledge and inspiration by Regional Health Promotion Center 7 and Center 8 Udon Thani, Udon Thani Provincial Public Health Office, Nam Som District Public Health Office, Sub-district Health Promoting Hospital, and Nam Som Hospital so that schools participate to carry out practical school development, whereas the schools apply the knowledge gained from the workshops to the project by Regional Health Promotion Center 8 Udon Thani, and the local community agencies, including the mentoring schools, a diamond health promotion school, to visit, give knowledge, advice, and take a school readiness assessment test prior to assessment.

Regional Health Promotion Center 8 Udon Thani attends the school assessment based on the criteria of the diamond health promotion school.

From the determination of one of the thought leaders of the local community and cooperation of all related agencies, including the assistance of 2 mentoring schools in the district previously meeting the criteria, namely Ban Tha Som School and Ban Thung Thong School, this has resulted in Nam Som district to have 6 schools that meet the criteria as the diamond health promotion schools at the same time, which means the goal of making youths in the district stay healthy sustainably as a concrete result in a wider area.

The implementation steps of “Nam Som Model” have been proven to be workable, so it will be used as a prototype model in sustainable youth health development through the ROZA Lovely Family Trip by applying the acquired knowledge and expanding results to other areas, inspiring the communities to take part in the development of their own schools and local community. For diamond health promotion school, it is the criteria that helps to promote the sustainable health of students established by the Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health. There is also a comprehensive campaign on health and environment with a close follow-up and clear criteria for measuring results, that is, required to meet the examination criteria of 19 indicators, which are standards that help enhance the quality in promoting student well-being leading to the development of people to have a good quality of life and to live in a happy society.
